Evacuation, Swine Flu, What A Week!

So it’s been an eventful week. I walk to my car on Monday and I see a flat tire. No biggie, but not a great way to start the work week. I finally make it into work and a security guard comes screaming in the office, “there’s a plane headed for the building and there are fighter planes trying to shoot it down! Get out, now!”. It turns out it was Air Force One taking publicity shots over lower Manahattan followed by 2 F-16 jet escorts. The Goldman Sachs building in Jersey City was really shaking. A couple of people I work with did not return to the office after the evacuation due to emotional trauma. One was in the WTC on 9/11 and another lost her fiance on 9/11. Nice going Obama for letting us know.

Swine flu…whatever happened to the bird flu? Much ado about nothing? I guess “they” are trying to deflect our attention away from the economy or something. Well, since the warning has reached Level 5, we’re in near-crisis mode. We have to test our remote access capabilities in case Level 6 is reached. All non-essential workers will need to work from home. I am on vacation and essential, which means if Level 6 is reached, bye bye vacation and I have to come into work.

Congressman Ron Paul, who’s also a medical doctor, has a nice video about the the current outbreak. It’s worth a watch.

Well, I’m going to disregard the warnings and go to a crowded place tonight. I have tickets for the midnight showing of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Hopefully, I don’t get sick because I also have midnight show tickets for Star Trek in IMAX next week. To top it all off, maybe dinner of BBQ swine ribs.
